Agbor Community Youths Protest Over Poor Electricity Supply – Demand Action from BEDC
Naijajistreal96.com.ng reports: Residents of Agbor in Delta State woke up to the sounds of peaceful chants and placards on Thursday as angry youths took to the streets to protest the poor electricity supply plaguing the area for several months.
The protesters gathered at Deeper Life Junction and marched through major roads including Old Lagos-Asaba Road and Obi Ikenchukwu Palace area, calling on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to fix the problem or face total shutdown.
Youth Leaders Speak
Speaking with Naijajistreal96.com.ng, one of the organizers, Mr. Joshua Edem, said:
“We are tired of darkness. For over 3 months, we’ve had barely 2 hours of light per day. Businesses are suffering. We pay bills, yet there’s nothing to show for it.”
Police Maintain Peace
The protest was peaceful, and security officers from the Agbor Police Division were seen monitoring the demonstration without interference.
BEDC Responds
In response, BEDC Agbor branch promised to investigate the complaints, blaming the issue on transformer overload and cable theft. They assured residents of gradual restoration “within the coming weeks.”
Meanwhile, the protesters say they will continue their weekly march until visible improvements are made.
