The economic and financial crime commission (EFCC) has dismantled a suspected internet fraud training center popularly referred to as yahoo academy in th federal capipital territory Abuja.The operation which took place on thursdcay 9th april 2026 let to arrest of 31 individuals believed to be involved in organized cybacrime activities
According to EFCC the raid was carried out at a property located in becki estate, karu,withinthe outskirts of Abuja the suspects apprehended during the sting operation included two allerged masterminds of the schemed as well as several trainees who where said to undergoings intensive instruction in internet fraud technigues at the time of the raid
priliminary investigation revealed disturbing structure within the operation, the academy reportedly functioned as a recruitment and training bub when young individuals were lured with promises of legitimate job opportunities. some of the recruit were said to have been brought in from benue state only to find themselves trapped in a system designed to groom them into cybercriminals'
upon arrival at the facility the recruits were allegely stripped of their personal freedom their mobil phone were confiscated efectively cutting of communication with family and outside world and they were provided with laptops smartphones and specialised software which were used as tools for learning fraudulant activities.
All 31 suspected are currently in EFCC custody as investigation continued, the anti-graft agency has assured the public that the suspects will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigative process
This latest burst serves as a stark reminder of the evolving tactics used by cybercrime network and the urgent need for vigilance awarness and stronger enforcement to combat internet fraud in Nigeria.
